Empathize & Define

Our objective was to develop a product that would afford managers and executives in remote offices the ability to log into a portal and review the status of every heating, lighting and automation product at every location of their company.

Stakeholders and customers partook in a design studio which helped participants to identify and prioritize product requirements, ultimately leading to the product definition.

The list of requirements was long and detailed, accounting for hundreds of minute pieces of information across various types of equipment.

Ideate

The design team worked to create a system that addressed all equipment needs but maintained consistency across all units.

Prototype

Fully clickable, high-fidelity prototypes were built in phases to allow us to efficiently iterate the product design to its final functionality and design. Hour-long tests were conducted with users at the end of each phase to assure that the goals for that particular phase had been met.

Test

Once the project was complete, all phased prototypes were stitched together to create a unified experience which was comprehensively tested to assure that users could navigate between each of the well-defined sections.

We confirmed that the entire experience was seamless.

Outcome

Pixel-perfect deliverables were turned over to the customer for in-house development which is now in production.

The Team

I led the design of the portal from June 2016 – July 2017.

During this time, I collaborated with one creative director, one additional designer and two product owners.

My personal responsibilities included:

• Interpreting findings from a design studio
• Dividing work among teammates
• Creating design deliverables
• Reviewing team deliverables for proper information hierarchy and visual consistency
• Preparing prototypes
• Leading stakeholder meetings and presenting all design solutions
• Managing timelines and customer expectations
